St. Petersburg – Reginald L. Booth, a 39-year-old man from St. Petersburg, was shot and killed on the evening of Tuesday, July 29, 2025. The shooting incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 1200 block of 9th Avenue South. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found Booth lying in the road near his car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Booth was rushed to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for emergency treatment; however, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The implications of his death have left his family, particularly his mother, Peggy Booth, devastated, revealing the profound emotional impact this tragedy has had on their lives.

Peggy Booth learned of the shooting from one of her other sons. After receiving the call, she hurried to the hospital, where she was informed that her son had undergone surgery due to critical injuries to his stomach and back. Medical staff were especially concerned about the stomach injury, as it threatened vital organs. Despite hopes for a recovery, Booth’s family was informed by a detective later that evening that he had passed away.

In the wake of this heartbreaking event, Peggy expressed her grief, wishing she had the chance to speak to Reginald one last time. She mourned the loss of her son, who is survived by a partner and five children, the youngest being just 16 months old. The age range of his children spans from 18 years to this infant, underscoring the family’s potential loss of a devoted father and role model.

Reginald Booth was known for taking significant steps to turn his life around after a prior prison stint. He owned a candy shop called ‘Mr. Sweet Tooth’, located on 16th Street South, and had aspirations of making a positive change in his life. His commitment to improving his circumstances illustrates the loss felt by his family and community following his death.

Booth’s death marks the eighth homicide in St. Petersburg in 2025. This figure shows a decrease compared to eleven homicides reported by the same period last year, indicating a worrying trend in the local community. The St. Petersburg Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but specific details have not yet been disclosed to the public.

Authorities have appealed to anyone who may possess information related to the shooting to reach out to the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780 or submit tips via text to TIP411. Community cooperation may prove vital in aiding the ongoing investigation into this tragic event.

As the investigation unfolds, both family and community members are left to grapple with the impact of such violence within their neighborhoods, reflecting on the lives lost and the grieving families left behind.
