News Summary

St. Petersburg is bustling with new opportunities, including the Level Up Arts Grant supporting local arts organizations and the Sunrise St. Pete initiative for recovery from recent hurricanes. Additionally, dining options are expanding with new establishments like Amorino Gelato and Pepper Lunch. The community is urged to get involved in upcoming projects and educational programs, fostering growth in this vibrant city.

Exciting New Developments in St. Petersburg!

St. Petersburg is buzzing with excitement and fresh opportunities! This sunny city, enjoying temperatures around 74°F during the day and cooling down to 55°F at night, is not just basking in great weather but also some fantastic news for its arts community and residents affected by recent hurricanes.

Level Up Arts Grant is Here!

First up, we have a brilliant initiative for local nonprofit arts and culture organizations – the Level Up Arts Grant. This new grant aims to support smaller entities doing incredible work in our vibrant arts scene. To be eligible, organizations must have a budget of $50,000 or less, be registered as a nonprofit with the Florida Secretary of State, hold a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status primarily focused on arts or culture, and have been around for at least one year. Plus, they need to provide programming that benefits the residents and visitors of St. Petersburg!

It’s worth noting that organizations with outstanding debts to the city or those that qualify for the full Arts and Culture Grant won’t be eligible. But if they meet the criteria, they could receive up to $2,500 to help them thrive! Interested nonprofits should mark their calendars as applications are open until 5 p.m. on June 30, or until funds run out, so don’t delay!

Sunrise St. Pete Initiative Deployed

In addition to arts funding, the city has also rolled out the Sunrise St. Pete initiative, fueled by a whopping $159.8 million in federal disaster recovery funds. This initiative is a lifeline following Hurricanes Idalia and Helene, targeting long-term recovery with a focus on housing and infrastructure improvements. Residents are encouraged to get involved in planning projects aimed at creating affordable housing and revitalizing the local economy.

For those looking to engage directly with the planning process, there’s an exciting opportunity to join a community pop-up event on March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Coliseum. Mark your calendars to voice your ideas and be part of the change!

Delicious Additions to the Dining Scene

1246 Central Ave. in the EDGE District. With over 24 authentic Italian gelato flavors, crepes, and waffles available, it’s the perfect spot to satisfy your sweet tooth. The store spans an inviting 1,800 square-foot space, so you can enjoy a treat while soaking up the delightful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, on the dining front, Pepper Lunch has officially opened its doors at 4699 Park Blvd, making it the first location in Florida for this popular Japanese-style fast-casual dining concept. Whether you’re in the mood for a light bite or a hearty meal, this new spot is sure to satisfy.

Get Involved with Citizen University

April 23 to May 28, this six-week course is free for anyone wanting to get a closer look at how St. Petersburg operates. Don’t forget, the deadline to apply is April 11, so act fast!

Supporting the Arts

$550,000 in grants to local arts organizations for FY 2025. Out of 38 applications, 37 were approved, securing essential funding after the state cut all arts funding last June. This support is crucial for maintaining the vibrant cultural scene in the city!

Moreover, the Palladium Theater is kicking off a significant $10 million fundraising campaign for renovations that could see the venue temporarily close during the project. This effort aims to enhance the area and support economic and tourism growth across Pinellas County.

With the Pinellas County Tourist Development Council also approving $24.8 million in funding for various tourism projects, including reputable venues like the Morean Arts Center and the Palladium, there is much to look forward to in the St. Petersburg cultural scene. So, stay tuned, and get involved – exciting times are ahead!
