Florida to Host ABB FIA Formula E Series Miami E-Prix

News Summary

Florida is preparing for the ABB FIA Formula E Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This event will be crucial for expanding Formula E in the U.S. and is set to become the only U.S. stop on the 2026 calendar. It promises a thrilling experience with a new circuit and participation from notable drivers. The event is expected to boost engagement with motorsport fans and further showcase the series’ commitment to sustainability in racing. As excitement builds, the Miami E-Prix marks another significant milestone for electric racing in the region.

Florida is set to welcome the ABB FIA Formula E Series for the Miami E-Prix at Homestead-Miami Speedway on April 12, 2025. This event marks an expansion of Formula E’s presence in the United States, and is part of a broader plan that sees the Miami E-Prix listed as the only U.S. stop on the 2026 Formula E calendar, which consists of 12 stops and 18 races.

Homestead-Miami Speedway will be utilized for the Miami E-Prix, a location that allows for enhanced logistics and a thrilling race atmosphere. This race will coincide with the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, which is also set to occur at Miami International Autodrome in 2026. Jeff Dodds, the CEO of Formula E, expressed enthusiasm about racing at a world-class facility like Homestead-Miami Speedway, emphasizing its role in strengthening Formula E’s operations within the U.S. Last year’s event marked Formula E’s second consecutive race in South Florida, following a successful event at the same venue.

Formula E has been establishing its footprint in South Florida since making its U.S. debut at the Biscayne Bay Street course in 2015. Over the years, the series has hosted 17 races across the United States, with only Germany having more, holding 20 races. With this upcoming Miami E-Prix, Formula E will have become familiar with five different venues in the U.S., more than any other host nation.

The Miami E-Prix is expected to attract both devoted motorsport fans and new enthusiasts of electric racing. The race will be held on a new 3.551 km anti-clockwise circuit, which features both parts of the oval and an infield road course. The track will include 15 turns designed to provide various overtaking opportunities, with the ATTACK MODE located at Turn 4. The new venue also poses challenges for teams as the concrete surface may lead to increased tire wear, necessitating strategic management of tire sets during the race.

Five drivers from the inaugural Miami E-Prix ten years ago, including Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird, are anticipated to participate in this event, adding a sense of history to the occasion. Home teams for the race will include notable names like Andretti, DS PENSKE, and CUPRA KIRO, all of which will race using the GEN3 Evo car that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.82 seconds. Previous Formula E races relied on two cars per driver due to battery limitations, but advancements now permit drivers to race to completion in a single vehicle.

Formula E organizers are also looking at additional event locations to maximize race clusters by continent, aiming to minimize greenhouse gas emissions associated with travel. The series has witnessed a dramatic growth in audience engagement, with a global race viewership of 490 million last year, reflecting a significant increase from prior years. Social media presence has also surged, with 1.2 million Instagram followers and 324,500 on X (formerly Twitter). This expansion and engagement have positioned Formula E as the fastest-growing motorsport globally, with an average annual growth rate of 30%, appealing to a younger audience compared to more traditional series like NASCAR and Formula 1.

Brought to the forefront by its commitment to sustainable racing, Formula E continues to capture the excitement of motorsport while paving the way for the future of electric vehicles and entertainment in the automotive world. As the countdown to the Miami E-Prix begins, all eyes will be on Florida as it prepares to host this thrilling event in the evolving landscape of motorsport.
