Glastonbury, CT — Lynn Wilkie Murray, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at Hartford Hospital following a brief battle with colon cancer. Born on January 26, 1941, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Evelyn Wilkie.

Career and Accomplishments

Upon graduation from The Oxford School and Denison University, Lynn dedicated over two decades to her career at George Weiss Associates. She started as the second employee at the firm, contributing significantly to its expansion into a major financial powerhouse handling several billion dollars in assets.

Personal Life

In 1984, Lynn married Bob, a connection fostered by mutual friend George Weiss, who was also Bob’s college classmate. Together, they enjoyed a vibrant life spanning 41 years. The couple split their time between their homes in Glastonbury, CT, and St. Petersburg, FL, and cherished winters in Costa Rica. Their shared interests included a profound love for dogs, gardening, and travel.

Gardening and Horticulture

Lynn was not only a passionate gardener but also a skilled garden architect recognized by the American Horticulture Society. Over 25 years, she meticulously designed the Murray Gardens, an expansive 2-acre landscape in Glastonbury that features a diverse collection of exotic trees, ponds, and both common and rare perennial plants. The gardens opened their gates to garden clubs across the nation and frequently hosted events for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, showcasing her commitment to community engagement and the arts.

Lynn’s Love for Animals

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Lynn had a deep affection for dogs, exemplified by her efforts to rescue two dogs from the beach in Costa Rica. She skillfully trained her rescue dogs, along with two Hungarian Vizslas, in various disciplines such as agility, rally, obedience, scent work, and even freestyle dancing. In her final moments, Lynn was often found joyfully dancing with her rescue dog, Listo, to the music of the Beach Boys.

Surviving Family Members

Lynn is survived by her beloved husband Bob, their son Frederick “Rick” Dieterich III, and daughter Kimberly Lynn Sablich. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Frederick Semler Dieterich IV, Wren Evelyn Sablich, and Garrett Timothy Sablich, along with her brother Jack Wilkie.

Celebration of Life and Donations

A private Celebration of Life will take place on September 20, 2025, in West Hartford, CT, for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lynn can be made to the Travis Fund at Tufts University or the Moffitt Cancer Center for cancer research.
