A small, single-engine plane crashed at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Lake Worth, Florida, resulting in seven individuals being transported to local hospitals. The collision occurred in the 3800 block of Lake Osborne Drive near Cochran Drive, impacting a passenger vehicle with five people inside.
Upon arrival at the scene, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) crews found that the plane had landed on a sidewalk without igniting a fire or leaking significant amounts of fuel. Initial reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identify the aircraft involved as an Orlican M8 Eagle. At the time of the crash, the plane was carrying two individuals—a pilot and a passenger.
The plane reportedly skimmed the top of a Honda Civic before crashing. Inside the car were one adult and four children. Fortunately, all seven individuals were able to evacuate from their respective vehicles before first responders arrived. The pilot and passenger from the aircraft were classified as trauma alerts but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The adult and children from the car were also taken to hospitals as a precautionary measure, although they were not seriously injured.
Flight path data revealed that the plane had taken off from Lantana Airport (LNA) at 4:24 p.m., reaching an altitude of 100 feet before crashing just one minute later. Preliminary investigation indicates the aircraft may have clipped a palm tree shortly before striking the moving vehicle. Following the crash, the front of the plane was reported as “completely demolished,” while the Honda Civic showed only minor damage to its roof.
Authorities from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office have initiated an investigation into the crash, with the FAA also responding to the incident. High Ridge Road has been closed through Cochran Drive to facilitate the response and investigation efforts.
Residents in the area expressed relief that the collision did not result in more severe injuries or fatalities, noting that the situation could have been considerably worse if the aircraft had landed in a more populated area or in the nearby body of water. The swift evacuation of those involved may have played a crucial role in preventing a higher casualty count.
