Local Artist Adam Turkel Hosts Art and Music Exhibit in St. Petersburg

Two special events, titled Punk Rock Brunch, are scheduled to take place during the exhibit on Sundays, June 29th and July 27th. These brunches will feature special guest musicians, including Billy Summer and Robbie Rist from The Black Honkeys, and will run from 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission to the exhibit and events is free, but attendees are encouraged to make a suggested donation of $5 to support ongoing local artistic efforts.

This exhibit serves as an opportunity to not only appreciate Turkel’s art, but also to engage with the local community. Adam Turkel, who has lived in St. Petersburg since 1999, is recognized for his diverse contributions to the arts, which span fine art, graphic design, music, and education. He has exhibited his works in various cities, including Los Angeles and New York, with future shows planned for 2024 and 2025.

Turkel was born in Baltimore in 1975, where he was deeply influenced by the punk scenes of Baltimore and D.C. He has toured the East Coast as the lead singer of his punk band The Beatings and has showcased his work at prominent venues such as the Ottobar and the 9:30 Club. Over the years, Turkel’s artwork has been collected on an international scale and he has participated in shows that include the Punk Retrospective at MOCA Westport.

Currently, Turkel is not only creating art but is also committed to art education. Since 2020, he has been a member of St. Petersburg’s Arts Advisory Committee and has taught at multiple schools in Pinellas County. At present, he serves as an award-winning 3D Art Teacher at Lakewood High School, emphasizing his dedication to nurturing the next generation of artists.

Turkel operates a studio and gallery located at Art at 400 Studios, situated at 400 23rd St. S. and 5th Ave S. in St. Petersburg.
