Florida

AdventHealth Orlando has announced a major expansion project following its recognition as Florida’s top hospital. The healthcare facility will invest $660 million in a new 14-story patient and surgical tower, part of a total long-term investment of $1 billion dedicated to enhancing its offerings and capabilities in downtown Orlando.

The upcoming tower is designed to significantly expand the hospital’s infrastructure, featuring 24 operating rooms, endoscopy and imaging services, as well as 440 inpatient beds. This initiative aims to accommodate the growing demand for healthcare services in Central Florida, a region experiencing rapid population growth.

AdventHealth Orlando’s CEO outlined a clear commitment to expand alongside Central Florida’s burgeoning population, emphasizing that the project has been in planning for over ten years, signaling careful consideration and preparation for this undertaking. The new facility will be constructed on AdventHealth’s 172-acre campus, situated south of King Street.

Construction of the surgical tower is projected to create hundreds of new job opportunities, contributing to the local economy and enhancing service delivery within the healthcare sector. The expansion will further involve ongoing recruitment and training initiatives aimed at bolstering medical personnel capabilities across various specialties.

Project Details and Timeline

Specialized contractor Brasfield & Gorrie has been selected to oversee the project, while architectural design will be handled by HuntonBrady. The facility is expected to be completed by 2030, marking a significant milestone in AdventHealth Orlando’s vision for the future of healthcare in the region.

In addition to the expansion of physical infrastructure, the investment will allow AdventHealth Orlando to enhance its educational and training programs. Currently, the hospital operates 24 accredited programs, housing 358 residents and fellows. With the expansion, the organization plans to introduce seven more residency programs, adding an additional 109 residents and fellows to its roster.

Enhancing Community Healthcare

The AdventHealth Orlando campus currently employs nearly 10,000 staff members, and with the projected growth, the organization aims to increase student enrollment at AdventHealth University to nearly 3,000 students by 2030, a significant rise from the current enrollment of nearly 2,000.

This expansion provides the opportunity to enhance existing healthcare programs, including initiatives like the Genomics Risk Assessment for Cancer and advancements in Early Detection. Additionally, AdventHealth plans to establish a state-of-the-art simulation center at the university to support increased enrollment and training for budding healthcare professionals.

Wider Impact on Central Florida

AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division operates a network of 17 hospitals and emergency rooms across four counties. The organization is actively planning more facilities to meet the healthcare needs of a growing population. They are also committed to adding 800 new healthcare providers in the next three years to ensure adequate service delivery and to address the rising demands of residents in the area.

Overall, the expansion represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare in Central Florida, ensuring that AdventHealth Orlando continues to prioritize community health needs while enhancing its capabilities in surgical advancement, research, and medical education.
