ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Fans hoping to see the Tampa Bay Rays play for a championship at home will need deep pockets. With the World Series headed to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg next week, the team has little left to sell beyond standing room, and resale seats start well above $700.
The series against the Milwaukee Brewers opens in Milwaukee on Friday and Saturday. It then moves to St. Petersburg for Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 26, and Game 4 on Tuesday, Oct. 27, with a Game 5 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, only if needed. Milwaukee holds home-field edge after winning a club-record 103 games and is back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982, while the Rays led the American League with 97 wins and swept the Yankees on their way to the pennant.
For Games 3 and 4, the Rays are offering center-field standing room at $800 plus $81.60 in fees. Resale tracker SeatData.io put the median asking price for Game 3 at $1,456 on Thursday morning, with the cheapest seat at $720; Game 4 had a $1,442 median and a $759 floor. For a possible Game 5, the team listed several thousand upper-deck seats from $920.
Seats in Milwaukee cost far more, with Game 1 resale prices at a median of $5,731, which has some Brewers fans planning trips south.
The Trop seats just over 31,000 with its 300 level open, and standing room has pushed three playoff crowds past 40,000. This is the Rays’ third trip to the Fall Classic; their 2020 games were played at a neutral site in Texas, so next week brings the Fall Classic back to the home crowd.
