St. Petersburg, Florida – Encompass Health has officially opened its 25th rehabilitation hospital in Florida, named Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of St. Petersburg, which began accepting patients on October 21, 2025. The new facility is designed to address the growing need for inpatient rehabilitation care in the state, providing specialized services for individuals recovering from various medical conditions.

The St. Petersburg hospital spans 57,000 square feet and operates as a freestanding facility. It offers rehabilitation services for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic conditions. To ensure effective recovery, the hospital provides a minimum of three hours of intensive therapy—physical, occupational, and/or speech—five days a week.

Equipped with 50 private patient rooms, the hospital also features a spacious therapy gym that incorporates advanced rehabilitation technologies. Amenities include an activities of daily living suite, an in-house dialysis suite, a landscaped therapy courtyard, a dining room, and an in-house pharmacy. An interdisciplinary team of specialized nurses, therapists, and physicians work together to customize treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each patient.

The facility currently employs around 100 staff members, with plans to increase that number to 150 within five years. The design of the hospital includes a unique daily living suite that allows patients to practice real-world activities, enhancing the rehabilitation process.

As this facility marks the fourth hospital that Encompass Health has opened in Florida this year, the company is also planning to open another hospital in Lake Worth, Florida by the end of 2025. Encompass Health operates a total of 171 hospitals across 39 states and Puerto Rico, solidifying its presence in the healthcare industry.

According to the company, the average length of stay for patients at the St. Petersburg facility is less than 13 days, emphasizing the commitment to providing individualized care for better patient outcomes. Encompass Health aims to deliver rehabilitation services closer to home for patients while providing a supportive and healing environment.

Encompass Health is recognized as America’s Most Awarded Leader in Inpatient Rehabilitation by Newsweek and Statista, indicating a strong commitment to quality care. The expansion of their services aligns with the increasing demand for rehabilitation services driven by the nation’s aging population.

The business development director at Encompass Health emphasized that their sole focus is inpatient rehabilitation, aiming to provide the best possible care for patients. The company’s growth corresponds directly with the community’s need for enhanced rehabilitation options as more individuals face health challenges requiring skilled rehabilitation support.

Overall, the opening of the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of St. Petersburg represents a significant advancement in healthcare accessibility for Florida residents, particularly for those in need of intensive rehabilitation services.
